What the Health?

Have you watched more movies since Covid?  I’ll bet that part of the economy has soared.

I have a suggestion.  Watch the movie, “What the Health.”  If you have excess weight, if you suffer from asthma, if you are in pain, if you have diabetes or thyroid issues, see what others did to help themselves.  

One area I can attest to is where does our information comes from.  When I taught foods in the public schools, before I was a chiropractor, the visual aids and educational tools were all “gifts” from the meat and dairy industry.  Just saying!!

Health?

I read a piece in the news the other day that asked this question: “Why is the U.S. enduring a far more severe virus outbreak than any other rich country?”

I think everyone knows that people with other health problems suffer the most, right?  They have said that most people who die from corona virus have other co-morbidities.  

Why are Americans unhealthy?  We spend twice the amount on health care than any other country.  The average person takes a hand full of prescriptions pills each day.  We do not get health from taking prescription medications.  We take prescriptions to deal with disease, right?

We are a sick population.  My patients are not the norm.  We are constantly working on being health, exercising, avoiding medications, eating in tune with our body and fighting off any infection that is attempting to get a foothold in our body.   Contrast that with the average American.   We cannot solve health problems with medicine. Medicine is for disease.  Hippocrates was right:  let food be your medicine.

If there is a silver lining with the corona virus, maybe it is that being stuck at home we learn to cook new recipes and prepare food that is good for us.   Just plain food is delicious. It doesn’t need a lot of fancy cooking. We are at the height of the fruit season. Fruit for dessert! ENJOY!

Great Places in the Metro Area

I spent some time with a friend the other day. She said she has spent some time visiting all the parks in Denver. I thought that was a create endeavor at this junction in life. When the weather is nice and you want to take a walk, take it at a new place. I generally walk around my neighborhood but it would be nicer to make a list of the parks and mark them off as I take a walk there. Each park is different and nature is a feast to behold. If parks aren’t your thing, find something you like that you can do differently.

We are having to find our own pleasures while wearing a mask and social distancing. I can’t think of anything better than taking in some new sights. We go to other states and cities, maybe even countries, when we haven’t even seen our own city. So, just for fun, figure out what you might like to do from now until Sept 1 that is unique to you and your creative spirit and DO IT!!

Confused About Diet?

Should you eat paleo? What about ketogenic? Sometimes I ask myself, how were we meant to eat? There are so many ways of eating that somehow become popular. Personally, I feel that God put us on this big beautiful ball with everything we need to eat. Eating should be somewhat easy. Doesn’t have to be fancy. I think some are finding during this Covid time, that preparing our own meals makes you feel better.

You buy a new dress. It will be gone in two years. You get a new hairdo. it will be changed in a couple of years. Even so for your cars and houses, right? But you only have one body to love and care for and enjoy. Just one. My body is my own experiment and my responsibility to find out what makes me feel the best. Let me know about what you find for your body!! In the end, we are in this together, but with our body, it is our own experiment. Your body is your temple. Take care of it!

Oils–listen up!

This doctor, Chris Knobble, will be known long after his death for the dedicated work he has done for macular degeneration. He has written a great book and done tons of research. He is an amazing person and has some amazing information to give us: seed oil is making us fat and sick and also giving us macular degeneration. Good Health is Priceless, right?   

If you can do something at home to improve your health, it will always pay off.  Of course, you can exercise and eat well.  And you have seen my Biomat and the Voxx products (you can look on the dashboard of my website).  Those are things you can use at home without needing any doctor or nurse or prescription to help you.

Do You Need a Change?

Summer is here!  At least almost.  Flowers are blooming.  Fresh vegetables are filling the marketplace.  There are many farmer’s market’s around the city to choose from.  If you are so inclined to try a vegan approach to diet, I think this is a good time of year to give it a whirl.  There will be so many fruits and vegetables to choose from. 

There are many approaches to diet.  We all have our personal preferences.  However, if you have a health problem, why not change your diet and see if that will give you positive results.  Just try something different.  

Vegan is a good choice because it is anti-inflammatory.  If you have bad arthritis, just leave off the night shades.  What I am suggesting is to try something you haven’t tried before.  And since summer is here, why not try lots of fruits and vegetables for the next three months and see how you feel.  Get some blood work.  Are your markers better?

If you don’t want to be vegan, then change your diet in another way.  Change is the operative word.  You are on a mission looking for health!

Self-Care

Many people are working from home.  We see comics about being in your robe all day.  It is a good laugh.  It is important to treat yourself well, even if you can’t get it done professionally, like your brows and nails.  Just remember to consider yourself as if you had never heard of Covid.  Yes, our world is different, but our body needs some TLC whether we are dressing for work or not.  Everyone has a different idea of what that TLC might look like.  

One person has lost 20 pounds because she decided to just eat fruits and vegetables and exercise more as she has quarantined.  I thought, “I wish I had thought of that.”  Another person said there are pros and cons with remote working, but that she did not get the same quality of self-care when she worked at home.  

Think about the things you can do to increase your health this summer instead of the things we can’t do (go to Red Rocks concerts, etc).  It doesn’t have to be a massive change, 20 minutes of meditation a day, 20 minutes of walking a day, changing up your diet, giving yourself 20 minutes a day to read a book, taking your detox bath at night and many others.  The little things we do all add up.  Let’s do addition this summer!!

Everyone has an opinion of what is going on. But what is it based on? There are people who are very smart and have gone the distance in their studies to know what they are talking about. Who wants to be responsible for what we do? You know, sometimes, we have to look to people who have the right education, not the most money. This woman is Irish and well educated.
